Adele Powell Holt, a Michigan native, met a man from North Carolina while attending Lincoln Chiropractic College in Indiana in 1949 and married him in 1953 and moved to North Carolina that same year. I have now lived in Burlington, NC for over 50 years.
Many of those years have been devoted to Porcelain Art... studying through-out the country with the Masters of many areas; Landscapes, Birds, Flowers and really enjoying all of these subjects.
Consequently I have settled into my own specialty of designing with the influence of Art Nouveau and for the most part an Antique flair with Victorian style fast becoming my favorite. The designing... particularly... is the most challenging and exciting part of the Art of porcelain painting for me and I rarely paint the same thing twice.
The porcelain painting education has enabled me to cross-over into glass painting. Both mediums require the kiln firing process. My technique of both porcelain and glass demand many coats of china paint, Luster, Gold and up to 10 -20 firings in a kiln with temperatures ranging from 1121-1580 degrees Fahrenheit. Producing antique designs for lamp restoration is another field where I was involved and decided to exit that as a favorite. I also design and paint stained glass panels.
When time allows, I have expanded my creative endeavors to painting Acrylic Landscapes, they are one of my very favorite things to get into... but.... Porcelain Painting and teaching take priority over the other forms of art at this point in my life.
Being a member of the Professional Porcelain Art Association Teachers gives me the opportunity to teach at various Porcelain Art Schools located in different parts of the country.
Last year... the garage.... attached to my house ....was converted into a Studio to teach both Seminars and Private lessons.
Being a member of the International Porcelain Art Teachers (IPAT), World Organization of China Painters (WOCP), Porcelain Painters International On line (PPIO) and the local club, Piedmont Porcelain Art Guild.... since 1972, keeps me up to date on the many Techniques and changes that are happening in the Porcelain Art Community.
